Peatland Management plans and Restoration
The Highlands and Islands of Scotland are dominated by peatland, an important habitat for biodiversity, water management and carbon storage. However modifications and drainage of peatlands can reduce both their ecological and physical function.
Similarly projects which result in the excavation of peat must identify appropriate reuse and recovery strategies to conserve important peatland resources. Atlantic58 can support projects which seek to return peatlands to a more natural condition through peatland assessment, design and development of restoration schemes. We also support developers in the development of wider peatland management plans.
Many of our projects are undertaken collaboratively with local contractors and PeatlandACTION guidance / representatives. We also can support with peat slide risk assessments (PeatlandACTION methodology), supporting with associated CAR licensing for peatworks requiring impoundments and Prior Notification approvals to ensure compliance with planning requirements.
